Nortel CVAS adds centralized SIP to CS 2000
Nortel CVAS has unveiled its new centralized SIP engine capability for its Communication Server 2000 at the 2010 Cable Show today.
The new centralized SIP engine capability offers service providers a quick way to deliver advanced SIP services and applications to subscribers by allowing them to deploy SIP across the entire network using just one Adaptive Application Engine. The capability means SIP and non-SIP communications (including Legacy services) can all be offered off the same servers preventing isolated service islands often found in competing products.
The capability means SIP communications like unified communications (UC), video and multimedia conferencing and even call centers can be deployed this way. In addition, the centralized SIP engine deployed on a CS 2000 can extend the SIP services to additional CS 2000 nodes in the network.
"Our CS 2000 centralized SIP engine capability accelerates the service provider's time to market and eliminates the need for costly back-office expenses which can cost millions of dollars," said Samih Elhage, president, CVAS, Nortel in the release.
The new offering does seem to drop some barriers to entry here, with one CS 2000 required and the ability to still support legacy technology, more company's looking for incremental upgrades that want to take advantage of SIP UC can get on the band wagon without fear of cutting off some of the less upgraded areas of their enterprise.
