Nortel Taps into IBM Tivoli VoIP Software for Carrier Service Assurance

Tools

Nortel and IBM have announced a service assurance solution matching up IBM's Tivoli Netcool Carrier VoIP Management software with network consulting and integration services from Nortel, including a Tivoli Netcool-based Common Management platform and Nortel Global Services. The service assurance solution is designed to provide greater visibility and control across multi-technology, multi-vendor networks for more quickly isolating and addressing performance issues.

Providing real time service level management views to help service providers identify problems before they occur, the initial version of the Tivoli Netcool Carrier VoIP Manager supports Nortel's Communications Server 2000 IP Multimedia softswitch. Netcool Carrier VoIP Manager is the first offering from IBM to integrate service quality, fault and performance manager for carrier VoIP networks.

More than 1,000 service providers, including all of the top 20 carriers, have selected some flavor or another of IBM Tivoli Netcool software. Over the past three years, IBM has steadily built up its presence in the carrier space through a combination of hardware and software offerings.
