Polycom brings enterprise-grade mobile video calls to Samsung GALAXY Tab

Tools

Samsung Electronics and Polycom have announced a deal to create unified communications (UC) solutions for mobile platforms. Polycom will develop standards-based video applications for the new Android-based Samsung GALAXY Tab.

Polycom's UC apps for 3G and 4G phones provides access across consumers and enterprise users integrating feature-rich mobile clients with interoperable network solutions. Unlike other apps out there, Polycom's solution for the Samsung GALAXY Tab will hook into enterprise UC platforms. Polycom's UC Intelligent Core infrastructure enables cloud-based UC delivery to consumers and enterprises which fully integrates into mobile, enterprise-based room, and desktop systems.

"Unlike other mobile video applications, we believe the Polycom application will drive a network effect for users and businesses by enabling the Samsung GALAXY Tab to connect with each other, as well as other standards-based telepresence and video conferencing systems and applications," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, Polycom's general manager of UC Products and chief development officer in a release.

The approach to adding video calls to a mobile phone is admirable considering all the apps out there that are attempting to do the job. Going with a company that actually has some serious experience in the field might set Samsung's GALAXY Tab apart and make it attractive for companies looking for a solution that could fit their employees lives better.

"We are partnering with Polycom due to its unparalleled HD video and voice quality, to bring a best-in-class, standards-based video communications experience to a wide range of UC applications and devices, including the new Samsung Galaxy tablets and Samsung smartphones," said Dr. Hosoo Lee, executive vice president and head of the Samsung Media Solution Center in the release.
