Polycom builds up exec team and merges video, telepresence, and voice development units

Unified communications (UC) company Polycom has announced six additions to its leadership team. The company also announced that it is combining of its video, telepresence, and voice development units into a single, aligned research and development organization for the UC market.

One of the major new hires is Joseph Burton for SVP, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, General Manager Enterprise and Service Provider. Previously, Burton was the CTO of Cisco's Unified Communications unit. Joining Burton will be Sudhakar Ramakrishna as SVP and General Manager Products, and Chief Development Officer. Ramakrishna was VP and GM for Motorola's wireless broadband access segment focusing on WiMAX and LTE.

The company will also merge is video, telepresence and voice development units into a research and development organiztion while forming three new lines of business: enterprise and government/public sector, service provider, and small-to-medium business. 

"Polycom grew sharply in the first-half of 2010 to a $1.2B revenue run-rate, and we expect this growth to continue into 2011 and beyond," said Andy Miller, Polycom president and CEO in a release. "By blending the video and voice development teams into one powerhouse UC innovation engine, we will further increase our agility and enable efficiencies in R&D. Additionally, the LOB structure allows us to better anticipate and deliver on our customer and partner needs."
