Polycom and RadiSys announced UC videoconferencing products this week. Polycom announced enhancements to its RMX 2000 real-time media conference platform while Radisys has added continuous presence videoconferencing capabilities to its Convedia media server family.
The RMX 2000 version 3 will support ISDN and legacy H.261 video end points, allowing customer to migrate up from existing video networks to HD environments; the RMX 2000 supports HD voice and video and provides full transcoding capabilities for users on different types of networks and video and audio equipment. RMX also gets Polycom's Lost Packet Recovery (LPR) technology. LPR provides a high-quality user experience despite high levels of packet loss.
RadiSys Convedia's new "continuous presence" (CP) mode supports multiple real-time video streams within a unified multi-plane display to provide an immersive video experience for desktop conferencing users. CP mode capability includes parameters to specify border size and calls, as well as active speaker highlights. The new capability is available at now at no charge on the RadiSys CMS-9000 Media Server. Support for both H.263 and H.264/MPEG4 video codecs are available.
