Polycom teams with Lenovo to extend RealPresence video collaboration
Polycom (Nasdaq: PLCM) is extending its videoconferencing suite to more endpoints, announcing that its RealPresence solutions will be available for select "Polycom-Ready" Lenovo products in the first half of 2012. Lenovo is the first PC manufacturer to announce plans to introduce products designed to work with Polycom's video collaboration solution.
Lenovo, the No. 2 PC manufacturer in the world, will certify that select laptops in the ThinkPad T, X, L and W Series are Polycom-ready, assuring they'll perform optimally with Polycom solutions.
Lenovo also plans to offer some products with optimized RealPresence HD Video and HD Voice solutions embedded on select Lenovo laptops and tablets, and will act as a reseller of Polycom's personal and group communication accessories worldwide to help customers achieve a complete communications solution.
The announcement is another step in Polycom's software strategy it announced in September, saying it planned to bring secure HD video collaboration to the broadest range of business, video, mobile and social networking applications through a standards-based infrastructure.
Polycom said embedded delivery of RealPresence to devices like Lenovo's adds a new and critical route to market for the company.
"This collaboration underscores Polycom's focus and commitment to deliver the most advanced and innovative unified communications and video solutions to enable employees to collaborate with colleagues, customers, experts and partners from wherever they work or travel," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, chief development officer at Polycom.
