Qualcomm says VoIP over EV-DO works

Mobile carriers don't like VoIP on their networks, but Qualcomm says it has tested VoIP over a new revision of the EV-DO data networking and that it works just fine. The tests over CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A networks involved 62 mobile calls in a single channel in a single sector. Qualcomm said the test showed a 30-fold increase in capacity over analog voice, although real-world results will likely be lower. The company said that new technology, which uses SIP, will pave the way for converged IP services over EV-DO networks.
