Qwest launches hosted UC service
Joining a trend that is picking up steam, Qwest Communications has launched a new hosted unified communications (UC) service platform. The Qwest iQ Hosted Unified Communication Service is aimed at enterprises, government agencies and educational institutions integrating voice, email and video and making them accessible with landlines, mobile phones and computers using Cisco's multitenant call management system.
Being a hosted system, the platform is managed by Qwest with customers using a turnkey Web-based, operations system to make on-site moves, adds and changes (MACs) and other day-to-day administrative functions. The system also serves as a jumping off point for customers to expand their IP communications portfolio's to accomodate future needs.
The first customer to sign on with Qwest for this new service is Arizona State University. ASU is deploying the service platform across four campuses serving over 70,000 students, faculty and staff.
