Radvision partners for medical education via videoconferencing
Radvision (Nasdaq: RVSN), which has had its struggles establishing itself as a standalone solution in the videoconferencing and video collaboration markets, today announced a solid win, saying Australia's GP Synergy had chosen it to facilitate administration and board meetings, but also will expand its use to medical education.
GP Synergy--a leading provider of general practice education and training across Sydney and northwest NSW--is leveraging Radvision's high definition desktop video systems and infrastructure hosted on its SCOPIA MCU using customized GP Synergy-provided systems. Remote participants can join the video calls using their laptops over a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connection.
The Radvision system steps in for a previous system that GP Synergy said delivered poor" video quality due to "spotty" networks. The issues limited caller participation, the company said.
"Our original video conferencing provider sold us on the HD experience, but HD video is not a reality here in Australia due to lack of broadband infrastructure," said GP Synery chief executive John Oldfield. "We needed a solution that made the most of the network connection while at the same time allowed access through video or other communications modalities."
Oldfield said Radvision's "plug-and-play" technology also sold the company on its SCOPIA technology. "I can send the Radvision systems to our stakeholders, who are then able to literally plug them into the wall, connect them to their laptops and click to join a meeting," he said. "We're delighted with the outcome."
Radvision, at one time, was one of Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO)'s leading technology partners before the networking giant purchased Tandberg, which was a major blow the company has been working at overcoming. Sales to Cisco once made up about 40 percent of Radvision's revenues.
While the company has seen somewhat slow uptake in North America, it's gaining traction in APAC, EMEA and CALA, according to recent earnings reports.
