Report: Telecom capex going up in 2011

Tools

More sunny economic news from industry analysts has come our way. This time Infonetics has released its Service Provider Capex, Opex, ARPU and Subscribers report with some positive indicators for the telecom industry.

Of course with all these reports lately, there has been good news and bad news. First, the bad news: worldwide telecom capital expenditures look like they are going to decline 3 percent for 2010 to around $289 billion. This continues the trend of a 5.3 percent drop in 2009. They blame the drops on Chinese carriers completing projects and reducing spending. One thing to note is that money spent on video infrastructure and IP routers in 2010 increased in the first half of the year.

The good news from the report is that Infonetics is forcasting a nice 1.6 percent increase in telecom carrier capex for 2011. Capex is set to grow to $321 billion in 2014.
