Rumor Mill: New Microsoft UC offering called 'Lync'?

Tools

ZDNet has an interesting round up of clues pointing to Microsoft launching the next version of its Communicator software for Server '14.' From their various sources, they've put together a trail that points to the next offering being called 'Lync.'

The new 'Lync' software will apparently be an embeddable piece of software giving developers and users access to all the UC features of Microsoft OCS for Server '14.' The offering will feature leverage existing hardware to deliver audio, video, and Web conferencing, instant messaging and presence, and enterprise voice through the Microsoft UC service portfolio. The software will also allow users to access the UC features from any phone--guessing that means mobiles as well. ZDNet found references to a 'Lync Attendee'--a conferencing client perhaps meant to replace Live Meeting--and a 'Lync Server 2010.'

According to the article, Microsoft has already stated that Live Meeting would be rolled into a client for OCS 14, but has not confirmed whether this new 'Lync' moniker will be the all encompassing client, just a piece of the suite, or nothing at all.
