SAP Business Suite on HANA could be a 'game changer,' says Ovum
The availability of SAP Business Suite on HANA could be a "game changer" by making SAP more relevant to enterprise customers, judged Ovum analysts.
At the same time, enterprises might be reluctant to change their data and enterprise resource planning investments in order to achieve the "transformative" benefits of SAP Business Suite on HANA, wrote Ovum analysts Tony Baer, Madan Sheina, Nicole Engelbert, Carter Lusher and Warren Wilson.
"Companies don't swap out their database and ERP investments overnight," they added.
In launching SAP Business Suite on HANA, SAP said the integration will remove the need for redundant data and systems, improving efficiency and reducing costs. The integrated platform will provide enterprises with market analysis, financial close, receivables management, material resource planning and consumer opinion analysis, SAP explained.
"We can now eliminate the traditional trade-offs between cost and performance and reinvent real-time business while dramatically simplifying our customers' landscapes, together with a strong open ecosystem of partners. And SAP Business Suite continues to fully support and optimize for all major databases in the industry, further demonstrating our commitment to openness and innovation without disruption," said Vishal Sikka, a member of the SAP Executive Board.
The Ovum analysts agreed that the SAP Business Suite on HANA has a number of benefits for enterprises. One benefit is accelerated reporting functions.
"The in-memory architecture allows data views to be generated on-the-fly, a benefit that not only reduces database footprint and storage requirements, but also potentially simplifies the modeling and deployment of data and the design of analytics or other complementary applications that run atop Business Suite. HANA's in-memory architecture also allows analytics to be embedded with transaction processing, enabling companies to become more agile," the analysts related.
