Save big bucks: Buy cheap desksets

Tools

If customers want to save a few billion bucks on their VoIP deployments, Gartner suggests that they cheap out on the phones (Cisco and Avaya will not be pleased). A Gartner analyst is saying that too many companies invest in tricked out VoIP handsets, complete with fancy screens and features stacked on features. Trouble is, people use those phones the way they always have: for making calls, answering calls, putting calls on hold, and dropping calls when they try to transfer them. Besides, if users want a fancy screen, there's usually a computer sitting right next to the phone and the computer can be integrated into the phone system. We're talking a lot of money here: Gartner estimates the waste at $20 billion (with a B) between now and the end of the decade.
