Shortel: Public sector providing growth for VoIP
It's long been said in these pages that the economic downturn has largely proven to be a positive opportunity for VoIP companies. IP phone systems and unified communications provider ShoreTel has been seeing solid growth in the last two years despite the rocky market.
The company recently announced that it has been seeing significant growth in the government and education verticals--which also happens to be an area of the economy thats been providing jobs. In the last two years, the company has seen close to 60 percent growth in business from the public sector with that particular market now making up about 20 percent of ShoreTel's overall sales.
ShoreTel has added more than 500 school districts across the U.S. to its customer rolls as well as a number of local municipalities and state agencies. The company notes that cash-strapped government agencies are taking advantage of the low cost of ownership ShoreTel's system offers. ShoreTel provides voice, video, data, and mobile communications on a distributed IP architecture.
