Siemens intros new SBC for secure VoIP at lower cost of ownership

Tools

Siemens Enterprise Communications has rolled out a new session border controller designed specifically to address security and interoperability issues of SIP-based VoIP traffic.

The OpenScape SBC is architected for SIP trunking termination from multiple service providers, making teleworker and contact center home agent deployment scenarios easy and cost-effective.

OpenScape SBC delivers secure connectivity from home agent deployment scenarios and from the enterprise data center to branch locations and hosted voice applications.

"SIP-based communications will be ubiquitous one day, so SBC functionality must be as well," said Zeus Kerravala, SVP of Enterprise Research at The Yankee Group. "While most SBC solutions today only focus on telcos and large enterprises, OpenScape SBC is addressing the need to provide cost-effective SBC functionality to Siemens Enterprise Communication customers of all sizes."

OpenScape SBC is deployed on industry-standard servers, providing customers with an aggressive return on investment. In addition to being scalable to support up to 4,000 simultaneous sessions on a single server, OpenScape SBC is available with local and geographical redundancy options.

OpenScape SBC is designed to work specifically with the OpenScape Voice solution, with a graphical, unified management and administration interface.

Siemens Enterprise Communications will continue to offer SBC solutions from its partner Acme Packet for large to very large enterprise deployments and for organizations that have standardized on Acme Packet SBCs.

"Our OpenScape Voice customers are increasingly implementing cost-saving IP trunking and the deployment of remote workers is growing rapidly, driving the need for an effective VoIP security solution," said Siemens Enterprise Communications' Chief Marketing Officer Chris Hummel. "OpenScape SBC provides comprehensive, scalable and survivable SIP-based security, interoperability with the OpenScape Voice solution and predictable linear pricing for lower TCO."
