Siemens Networks scores TWC win

Tools

One of the hardest tricks in business is launching a new business from within an old business without missing a step. Think of the way the old AT&T shakily launched its Information Systems division out of Western Electric 20-some years ago. You certainly know that Siemens is spinning its telecom infrastructure business into a joint venture with Nokia, to be called Siemens Networks. Siemens Networks is claiming a big win, signing an agreement to supply Time Warner Cable with the SURPASS IP-based voice servers. The SURPASS servers also support IMS, and TWC has been showing some trials of dual-mode service. Siemens Networks, for its part, says that four years ago, 14 percent of its revenues came from "next-gen" networks; today, it's 60 percent.
