SIP adoption causing security holes
As companies move from simple IP telephony to unified communications the continued adoption of the highly flexible SIP protocol is exposing enterprises to increased security risks says VoIP security firm, Sipera.
TMC's Rich Tehrani has a useful interview with Sipera executive, Eric Winsborrow, on the current state of play in the VoIP security field. Interesting was the observation that Sipera's success is really tied to the adoption of the SIP protocol.
"Lack of SIP adoption is a threat to Sipera's continues success. While the market recognizes that SIP will be the protocol for unified communications, because of its openness and extensibility, the rate of SIP adoption impacts Sipera's growth," Winsborrow said. "It isn't a matter of if SIP will be the standard, but when."
Also noteworthy is how Sipera--like every other player in the IP space--has tweaked its marketing spiel to pick up unified communications as part of their pitch for work.
