SIPit 28 focuses on video, IPv6 issues

Tools

The SIP Forum has released results of SIPit 28, its recent interoperability event in Hunstville, Ala. About 19 companies engaged in 40 different SIP implementations during the five-day April event, which was hosted by Hunstville-based Digium.

Tests covered SIP interworking in a variety of simulated, live IP network conditions and settings, with a special emphasis on video-related tests. The SIP Forum said a number of participants executed different telepresence scenarios with intricate SIP signaling, testing for quality of service, network resiliency and interoperability involving new types of rich media endpoints with IP application servers, SIP proxy servers and session border controllers.

IPv6 also figured heavily at the event, as 68 percent of the implementations supported IPv6, compared to about 53 percent at last year's SIPit 27. IPv6 interoperability is especially important now as many SIP implementations are likely to use a combination of IPv6 and IPv4 protocols.
