Skype and Citrix team to add GoToMeeting to Skype for Business
As Skype works to figure out how to grow its business model, one place the company has been trying to drum up support for is its Skype for Business wing.
At Enterprise Connect this week, Skype announced a strategic partnership with Citrix Systems. The partnership gives Skype an easy-to-use, Web and audio conferencing capability by taking advantage of Citrix's GoToMeeting. The move could mean big things for Skype's business aspirations.
Based on Citrix's GoToMeeting, Skype's new Web and audio conferencing features will supplement the Skype for Business desktop experience, which prior to the deal has offered users instant messaging, voice and video calling, group video calling, conferencing as well as file sharing. GoToMeeting will add a layer of meeting facilitation to the service enabling interactive screen sharing allowing meeting hosts to highlight information from their computer screens like presentations or demos. Adding GoToMeeting attaches a familiar brand the business world trusts to the Skype offering.
"GoToMeeting is used by millions of people around the world, which is testament to our unrelenting focus on ease of use and delivering a superior customer experience," said Brett Caine, senior vice president and general manager of Citrix's Online Services Division in a release. "Teaming with Skype further extends our high quality capabilities, enhancing the collaboration experience for business users and workshifters everywhere."
