Skype for Android gets hacked for 3G calls

Tools

That was fast. A few days ago Skype went live across all Android phones. The biggest drawback most people saw was that you needed to be tethered to a WiFi connection to take advantage of Skype calls--severely limiting the 'mobile' aspect of the mobile VoIP offering. Looks like that's not so much an issue anymore.

Hackers have succeeded in modifying the Skype app so that users can use the application to make calls over the 3G network. Hackers must have been working around the clock as Skype launched Skype for Android to the Android Market for version 2.1 of the operating system just a few days ago and a hack is now available for download. Users can download the hacked .apk file after uninstalling the existing Skype app and then they manually install the modified application to take advantage of 3G calls.
