Skype ends party, sets annual unlimited rate

Tools

The enduring question of how eBay expects to make money from Skype got a little closer to being answered this week. For the last year or so, Skype's been offering free off-network calls within the U.S. and Canada. The free ride ends in 2007, but the new pricing won't break anyone's bank. Sign up before Jan. 31, and unlimited calling will cost $14.95 per year. After that, it's $29.95 per year. "Unlimited," in this case, means any off-network calls within the U.S. and Canada. At the casual price of 2 cents per minute, this will pay out at about 1,500 minutes per year. An hour of international calling is included, and Skype to Skype calls remain free.
