Skype scoops up VoIP startups
Skype, a consumer VoIP service provider, has acquired Sonorit Holdings and its U.S. subsidiary Camino Networks, a provider of voice technology for the Internet. The transaction is valued at approximately $27 million. The acquisition will allow Skype to add voice engineering experts to its team to design and develop Skype for the future. It appears that Skype is going back to the labs to develop some additional features in the increasingly crowded 'me-too' consumer VoIP market space. Google and Yahoo! are also competing in this market, recently announcing the release of their own VoIP clients.
