Sonus rights the ship, posts Q2 profit
Sonus Networks reported positive second-quarter earnings as it returned to profitability after a first-quarter loss. The company posted $61.9 million in revenues, and though that figure is off substantially from the Q2 2008 haul of $87.8 million, it's a sharp uptick from the $41 million the company reported for the first quarter of 2009.
Sonus had a $4.4 million profit for the quarter, up from a $16.6 million loss the previous quarter and an increase of around 33 percent from its $3.3 million profit for Q2 2008.
Sonus CEO and President Richard Nottenburg said the company now is seeing the benefits of cost-cutting measures it undertook a year ago that have resulted in more efficient operations.
The company ended the quarter with $387.4 million in cash and investments, and Nottenburg said this financial strength will help the company navigate the uncertain economic times. Personnel reductions the company made beginning in December likely contributed to the company's profitable quarter.
