Spirit DSP, Polycom sign 5th licensing agreement for multipoint videoconferencing support
Sometimes the axiom "when it ain't broke, don't fix it," is particularly apropos. Such is the case in the relationship between videoconferencing specialist Polycom and Spirit DSP, the Moscow-based voice and video over IP engines provider.
Spirit today announced it signed its fifth licensing agreement with Polycom; Polycom licensing Spirit's product to support videoconferencing on the Polycom CX5000 Unified Conference Station.
The CX5000 system is a Polycom-branded version of Microsoft's RoundTable collaboration and conferencing device, providing group telepresence as well as serving as an analog conference phone.
"Polycom's continued commitment to Spirit underscores the ever growing demand from businesses for quality, real-time multipoint video communications and our continued commitment and leadership in delivering on this promise to millions of users worldwide," said Igor Morgunov, Spirit's sales director.
Spirits's engine SDKs are designed for real-time, multipoint videoconferencing. The software combines scalable audio with scalable video, a necessary marriage to ensure a quality conferencing experience. The voice engine includes standard voice codecs, a patent-free wideband and a Spirit IP-MRTM voice codec. The video engine includes an H.264 SVC video codec that addresses video packet loss and video quality improvements, including a network adaptation module that compensates for network jitter and packet loss.
