Connected TVs and devices ranging from gaming consoles to Blu-ray players are making it easier for consumers to watch both movies and hit TV series without having to rely on a cable or satellite TV subscription. Most of the connected TV interfaces enable viewers to watch programs from online video suppliers, such as Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX). Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) uses voice commands and gesture controls for its Xbox 360 interface, while Nintendo lets gamers who buy its new Wii U device use a touch screen display on the game controller to channel surf.
