AT&T launches Connect

Tools

AT&T has launched AT&T Connect, the first of what the giant U.S. teleco says will be a series of converged AT&T-branded voice, video and web conferencing products and services aimed at unified communications to companies worldwide. The launch comes with the formal acquisition of Interwise a provider of IP based voice, web and video conferencing services.

"With the capabilities of Interwise ... we've got the reach, scale and customer base to quickly deliver to businesses what other players can only promise in the unified communications space," claimed Ronald E. Spears, group president, AT&T Global Business Services.

"We believe that our IP network is the lynch pin to delivering a rich set of unified communications capabilities at the scale needed by enterprises operating in global and dynamic environments."

UC has become almost religious since Bill Gates gave it his blessing a few weeks ago and AT&T is not going to let their POTS heritage stop them from being converted. As Frank Zvi, vice president of AT&T Unified Communications sees it: "Over time, AT&T's Unified Communication Solutions will enable businesses to leverage the power of communications to create more agile, effective organizations and to connect their employees, partners and vendors in a manner that suits them wherever they are and over any device--wired or wireless, PDA or personal computer."
