Tango launching video voicemail service
Tango, which Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) last month chose over its own Skype service to premiere video chat on the Windows Phone, now plans to roll out a video voicemail service.
"We want to see if we can become the place where people can keep important visual moments," said CTO and co-founder Eric Setton. The Palt Alto-based company launched a year ago and already has 30 million users..
The service allows users placing a video call to leave a 30-second video message if the other party doesn't answer. It's available over 3G or Wi-Fi and can be used crossplatforms between Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS and Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android equipped phones. Surprisingly, given its integration onto Windows Phone, those users can't yet record video messages.
Setton told VentureBeat it needed to add more cloud storage and computing resources to its existing hardware to offer the service.
Tango said users will have free access to their last five video messages but will have to pay 99 cents for five more messages or $1.98 for 10 more.
