The ultimate regulatory solution

Tools

Want to be out from under the thumb of pesky regulators? Tired of Sarbox, net neutrality, copyright regs, E911? Why not buy yourself a country? It's not all that far-fetched. Well, maybe a little. But the Swedish file-sharing site The Pirate's Bay wants to buy a Sealand, a former English military platform seven miles off the English coast. It declared sovereignty in 1967, and has a court ruling (not its own) to back it up. Its owner says Sealand has been valued at nearly $1 billion, which may be kind of steep. But given Web 2.0 valuations and the extreme business-friendly environment of Sealand, maybe not. "HRH Ed Whitacre, King of AT&T's Sealand" has kind of a ring to it, doesn't it?
