This could be the year VoIP comes of age
VoIP is poised for a breakout year in the United States in 2008 with an annual growth rate that could push 25 percent and produce revenues of $3.19 billion, says a new report from IBISWorld.
Â
"The VoIP providers industry will easily outperform the wider telecommunications sector this year," said IBISWorld senior analyst George von Horn. "As household broadband penetration increases, it will facilitate greater use of digital services, helping to improve the call quality of industry services."
Â
The study projects revenue growth near 90 percent by 2012, with revenues topping out at some $4.88 billion and a customer base of 25.4 million paying VoIP subscribers. IBISWorld said VoIP providers could see 16 million new users in 2008.
