Trend: SMB VoIP use mounting

Tools

Studies are showing the tipping point isn't far away for VoIP, at least where small businesses are concerned. A survey from CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) found that 34 percent of the 2,200 respondents said that "convergence"--VoIP and unified messaging--is the technology that will have the greatest impact in 2006. Another survey from Infonetics Research found that 36 percent of large companies, 23 percent of midsize companies and 14 percent of small companies are already using VoIP. Infonetics also said small business adoption of VoIP will triple by 2010, with most small businesses relying on local VARs, not carriers, to deploy and maintain it.
