Truphone demo coincides with iPhone lock-down

Tools

Truphone conducted a high-profile demo of its proprietary VoIP client on an iPhone last week, just as Apple cracked down on third-party apps. Apple warned iPhoners it was launching an update that would disable unlocked phones. The BBC reported that it messed with a few unlocked ones as well.

London-based Truphone nonetheless continued to crow about its VoIP demo as if their app was the sole exception to the iPhone lock down. Brad Reed of Network World quoted Truphone flack Tim Donnelly Smith as saying "This program doesn't do anything that Steve Jobs says not to do. Apple is fairly neutral on third-party applications and they won't deliberately try to break them."

Ahem.
