Update: Cisco receives final Competition Clearance from EC

Cisco has made another step towards the eventual purchase of TANDBERG by receiving Competition Clearance from the European Commission (EC). The EC approved CompetitionRx to oversees the commitments Cisco has made in order to be approved to purchase TANDBERG.

As part of the approval process, Cisco agreed to divest ownership of its TelePresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP) and the open source software for TIP to an independent industry body. Cisco will also provide the industry body with all other rights necessary to implement TIP and authorize the industry body to license those rights to interested companies, royalty-free. CompetitionRx will serve to monitor this activity and make sure Cisco honors its agreement.
