Using VoIP for international "domestic" calls
I'm finding myself interested in the possibilities VoIP offers for sovereign pockets in foreign countries--places like overseas military bases or consulates. I wrote last week about South Korea cutting the U.S. Army a deal on VoIP service rather than allowing non-Korean carriers a toe-hold. Now I find a story about Australian forces in Timor making VoIP calls home over a satellite company using MyNetFone. For official military communications, of course, security is important, and the Australian Defense Forces appear to have worked that out. Given the bandwidth and the will, it's looking like VoIP is a flexible way to bring a big piece of home away from home.
