Veribu VoIP start-up raises another $440K in Series A funding
That's right, start-ups are still popping up in the VoIP space. The Veribu team started off their careers making a sort-of text-based ChatRoulette for college kids, but have now gotten serious about communication apps and as a result have been bringing in some serious funding for their latest venture. It's always nice to see a group of entrepreneurs get excited about VoIP, but it is even better when they start attracting investment cash.
Jon Cook, CEO and co-founder of Veribu, is hoping to raise $2-5 million in the Series A funding round for the web-based platform. They just recently got $440,000 in the round and started off in January with an angel investment of $100,000. The offering is essentially a video, VoIP and text communication system with the addition of social networking features like tagging and photo sharing.
The way the founders are selling the service is that unlike other services there is no software downloads and its as easy as browsing and clicking to talk, video or text your contacts. Since the software is Flash-based, the iPhone app doesn't initially include the video chat component of the service.
