Verizon buys Terremark to expand everything-as-a-service strategy
More and more businesses are seeing hosted and cloud based services as the solution to keeping up with the technology race. Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has been moving itself into a position to provide "everything-as-a-service" to any company that needs it.
In its latest move, Verizon has picked up Terremark, an infrastructure-as-a-service company. The purchase will increase Verizon's capabilities to provide colocation services, managed and hosted services and network exchange points. The move continues to expand Verizon's position as a top provider of hosted services to businesses.
A few weeks ago, ABI Research reported that Verizon was the top hosted VoIP and Unified Communications (UC) provider in North America. Verizon provides a comprehensive and global hosted VoIP and UC strategy with a fully managed IP MPLS network that provides a pivot for its hosted VoIP and UC services for mid-sized and large enterprises. Adding recent acquisitions and more cloud-based services means Verizon will only continue to take a larger share of the business IT services field.
