Verizon goes with Lucent for Rev. A EV-DO

Attentive readers will recall earlier articles about successful tests of a new, VoIP-friendly, revision of EV-DO--the data service of CDMA. The news now is that Verizon Wireless says it's picked Lucent to deploy the Revision A hardware and software across its network. Revision A, which supports speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps down and 1.8 Mbps up, will allow services including push-to-talk, VoIP and other multimedia services. Expect Verizon to get less starchy about using its data network for IP-based calling.
