Viber gives users free VoIP over iPhone 3G
Minute buckets. We thought we had gotten rid of them, but it seems like more and more we are seeing them pop up again on mobile phones--along with their insidious cousins the data buckets. Luckily, a new iPhone VoIP app will let users get around the AT&T voice minute limits making calls free over data.
The new Viber app has hit the iTunes App store and its promising easy free VoIP calls without even having to go through the hassle of setting up user accounts and registrations. The new app just needs your phone number and you are free to make calls. However, the catch is users need to get their friends to link up to the Viber app as well in order to connect the free VoIP calls. The service claims the voice quality is even better than regular calls. An Android version is on its way as well as free SMS messages between service users.
Viber requires 3G or WiFi and is currently aimed at iPhone users. App users can connect to each other through VoIP data calls anywhere in the world for free. The service is free to download, free to use and doesn't contain any ads apparently. Seems like a very compelling service for users but I wonder where the business will make money?
