Video VoIP calling coming to the Nokia N900

Tools

Skype decided to take the post-Memorial Weekend news slump by storm with a bunch of new software releases. According to GigaOm, one of the coolest launches is set for later this week. Skype plans to launch an app for the Nokia N900 which will allow for Video Skype calls.

The N900 is one of the few smartphones with a dual-camera set up so that a camera can point at the user while they are looking at the screen. This vital piece of hardware makes the N900 the perfect place to launch mobile video calls. Currently, the service is only set to support Mobile-to-Desktop/Laptop calls. In the future, Skype plans to upgrade the app to allow mobile-to-mobile video calls and Skype-to-TV video calls.

Of course, the N900 is by far not nearly as popular as the iPhone, so the chance of an N900 owner knowing someone else with the same capability might be out of luck for their mobile-to-mobile video calling.
