Vidyo challenges Polycom, Cisco with $750 desktop videoconferencing

Firm is also offering browser-based telepresence system

Orlando, Fla.-- Vidyo unveiled this week a number of new videoconferencing products at the Gartner Symposium ITxpo aimed at challenging big players such as Polycom (Nasdaq: PLCM) and Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO). Vidyo launched

  • a $750 software-based executive desktop videoconferencing system
  • a browser-based telepresence product that offers up to 1440p capability
  • next-generation HEVC (H.265) codec design that will require half the bit rate of the previous codec (H.264)
  • and an open standards-based multi-protocol conferencing platform
