VoIP attacks to jump 50% in 2008
Security house McAfee is predicting a 50 percent increase in VoIP attacks next year as voice applications are distributed widely on the internet but security precautions lag.
McAfee says the number of attacks doubled over the last year, including a number of high profile "vishing" and fraud attacks. "It is clear that VoIP threats have arrived and there's no sign of a slowdown," said the report. "The technology is still new and defense strategies are lagging." It said the threat of attack is estimated to rise by 50 percent.
