VoIP infrastructure sales drop in first quarter
VoIP infrastructure vendors hit a little bump in the road earlier this year. Infonetics Research says sales declined 8 percent in first quarter '07 from the previous quarter, due mostly to declining sales of media gateways. Year-to-year, the market rose 14 percent, and there's a lot of RFP activity that usually leads to closed deals. Still, cablecos didn't buy as many gateways as they have been doing, which raises the possibility that pent-up demand is satisfied. The next sales are likely to be new IMS-based installs; Infonetics says the voice and IMS equipment market will be worth $6.9 billion worldwide by the end of 2010.
