Voxbone's iNum service now offers HD voice for Skype
Voxbone, a provider of international VoIP origination services and telephone numbers, just added high-definition voice calling for Skype to their iNum service. The VoIP provider's geographically-independent number service now allows HD calls between a number of VoIP networks and Skype. iNum numbers use an Internet-based 'country code' that routes calls through Voxbone and on to VoIP networks. This new offering allows Voxbone to transcode Skype's HD voice encoding to make it compatible with other networks. Prior to the debut of Voxbone's new service, HD voice calling was only available to other iNum users.
"With iNum supplying the needed uniform identifier across all providers, our support for Skype's SILK codec kicks high-definition voice into higher gear," said Tim Behrsin, Voxbone's business development manager for iNum in the release. "Suddenly, those among Skype's 480 million registered users who have the latest version of Skype for Windows or Mac can experience HD quality."
