Yankee says VoIP threatens telcos

The Yankee Group is out with a study that found that Web-based VoIP apps like Skype, Phoneline and Google Talk present a threat to legacy telcos. This less-than-completely startling conclusion is based on the low price of the VoIP apps. How can telcos compete? By offering new voice applications themselves and to partner with online portals, says Yankee. The report is called Web Voice Services Challenge the Incumbents in Telecommunications.
